He has performed at a high level no matter where he has played in the past. He is the real deal and this is a good deal for the Penguins.

I can't imagine this means anything for Fleury right now. Murray is injured and will probably have an adjustment period getting back up to speed. And despite his poise in the playoffs and success at every level, the sample size really is small enough in the NHL that the Pens will probably wait till at least Xmas and maybe even the deadline if they are going to move Flower.

I imagine Fleury will end up in Vegas next year. With 5.75 mil cap hit, can't imagine a trade working out

It would take a situation of some desperation. You know, seriously competitive team has #1 goalie out for the year with a lousy back up and want to compete for a cup run and so forth.

goalies who come out of nowhere.

Murray was just 25-10-3 with a 1.58 GAA and .941 SV% with an AHL record for shutouts (10) and 4-4 with 2.37 GAA and 0.923 GAA in the playoffs. And the AHL's best 'tender and rookie in 2015. And he was only regarded as one of the top goalie prospects not playing in the NHL year before last.

Yup, did not see this coming out from anywhere.

How? He's required to be protected, so they can't take him in the expansion draft. Unless Vegas wants to trade for him, which will be hard to do since 30 out of the max. 50 players on their roster can't be moved for a year.

Dallas has 2 lousy backups. They sure do make a lot of money, though.

A quick bit of research shows exactly what Tessier is sniffing:

- Last year, in the West, he predicted the Flames and Jets would make the playoffs (ended up finishing 3rd and 4th last in the West) and had Dallas and San Jose missing entirely

- In January, he thought Detroit was the best team in the atlantic division

- This year he also thought the ANA-PIT deal was a win-win for both sides. Perron (UFA to STL) & Clendening (UFA to NYR) for Hagelin (we know what happened)

- He thought Luongo was his midseason vezina winner (would finish with zero first place votes and 4th overall)

- In August, had Luongo in his top five goaltenders in the NHL over guys like Bishop, Crawford, Rask, even Fleury/Murray)

- Predicted in August, Auston Mathews would finish with 18 goals and 46 points for the season

- Said entering this season Crawford/Darling or Greiss/Halak are in his opinion the best goaltending tandems in the NHL (and did not even mention Bishop/Vaselevski and Murray/Fleury)

- And for this year, he think the Oilers are likely to be a bottom five team but doesn’t have the Flames or Coyotes even on his shortlist

Dude doesn't know anything about the team he covers. Why would anyone think he knows anything about the rest of the league?

Hey now, they're taking back their history.

I don't know what that means, and it sounds like theft to me, but he sure does know what a picture of "The Queen" looks like.

Eh, screw it, Winnipeg is a desolate tundra.

Ahhh, forgot about the NTC/NMC. Does that leave Murray open for Vegas to snatch?

Quotes arentb working but to respond to gstrang, there are alot of different ways to handle ntc/nmc including backdoor dealings with the expansion team. I've heard alot of this has gone on in previous expansion drafts. Not saying it will, but there are other options out there.

It means that one of them is gone by time time the expansion draft comes around. If they can't find a taker for MAF, the smart move would be to trade Murray.

Fleury is a solid goaltender... the Pens will be able to move him, the question is the value they get in return. We also don't know if Fleury has already waived his NMC for the purpose of the expansion draft... It will work itself out.... 1000% sure the Pens will not lose Murray in the expansion draft!

I don't have any issue with the deal but I wonder if it means something will happen with Fleury?

You wonder?

Maybe stick to writing for the Jets, and only the Jets......

you know how long the list is of goalie prospects who put up #'s in the AHL then fail in the NHL is? it's long.. AHL #"s and 4-4 in the playoffs doesn't really tell you how well he'll do as 60 game starter in the NHL..

By that logic, every single goalie comes out of nowhere. My point is Tessier's choice of wording saying "That's the big gamble with goalies who come out of nowhere." Murray was/is still more proven than some of those other guys. For a year and half atleast before last season, hockey analysts and the penguins brass knew what they had in Murray. Unproven would be a guy like T. Jarry

Whether you use 60, 80 games, a cup, or a career, the definitions will continuously vary as to how "proven someone is." Hell, some of the flames guys think mcdavid is still "unproven" since he hasn't hit 82 games/full season.

TEssier- Murray did not come out of nowhere. 2 seasons ago he was the Carey Price of the AHL as a 20 year old rookie and had spectacular numbers last year there as well before he was called up for good. I don't know what rock you have been living under but Murray has succeeded at every level even backstopping a pretty bad OHL team into a playoff birth.

What about his 9-2-1 regular season record with .930 as a 21 year old rookie? Which translates to 54-12-6 record for 72 games. Those numbers suck you're right.
